# Install the Locust terminal CLI

The current developer preview is macOS Apple Silicon, version 0.1.0 from source
cd65921d8a0f, API 4 / protocol 4. Locust is a CLI, local daemon and MCP bridge.

```sh
curl -fsSL https://locust.farm/downloads/install.sh | sh
```

To inspect the verified installation plan first:

```sh
curl -fsSL https://locust.farm/downloads/install.sh | sh -s -- --plan
```

The bootstrap verifies the archive checksum, Apple-rooted publisher identity and
trusted timestamp before executing the downloaded verifier. It then verifies
Locust's Ed25519 package signature, exact payloads and the current signed
withdrawal registry before applying the reviewed installation plan. It refuses
unsupported platforms, changed publisher trust, foreign CLI collisions and
symlinked bin directories. It uses no sudo and changes no shell startup files.

Defaults: software at `$HOME/.local/share/locust`, CLI link at
`$HOME/.local/bin/locust`. `--prefix` and `--bin-dir` select different absolute
paths. Add the chosen bin directory to PATH if needed. Reinstall preserves the
same verified software and policy. Installer source is committed at
6f5b7d47effd8adfcab78ae2dea814d38dcccc26 and its SHA-256 is `29cf0b0e2cb7612df477d2e89053fc3f0f6346ce07615a2511a43c4a89a38117`.

## Set up the selected harness

Software installation does not start a daemon, configure a harness or grant
work permission. Choose your client and an existing workspace explicitly. For
Codex, review setup against a fresh current-format daemon home:

```sh
locust --home "$HOME/.locust-api4" up --client codex --workspace "$PWD" --plan
```

Repeat without `--plan` in an interactive terminal to review and apply the
selected changes. Choose `claude` for Claude Code; use `agent add claude` with
the same daemon home and workspace to add it afterward. An agent with approval
for the exact displayed destinations can use `--yes`. Start a fresh native chat,
ask it to read the installed Locust skill and report its own status. Confirm
actual discovery independently of configuration:

```sh
locust --home "$HOME/.locust-api4" doctor --client codex
```

Chats within one harness profile share its fixed Locust session. Different
selected client profiles receive separate enrolled principals. Older incompatible
homes are refused; preserve them and select fresh state. Goal membership, work
permissions, review and application remain explicit choices.

This candidate passed production package verification, installation and launchd
checks, four executable tutorials, and native Codex/Claude workflows using
scripted providers. Real-model behavior and interactive approvals were not
requalified on these bytes. The formation editor's exact copied prompt remains
unqualified with real agents. The website's preview pages remain authenticated;
the download and installer URLs are public.

The signed raw binary and `.tar.gz` are listed in
[release metadata](https://locust.farm/downloads/latest.json). A signed, notarized,
stapled DMG is an optional distribution container, not a GUI application. Apple
accepted the DMG; local legacy `spctl` assessments returned invalid-parameter
errors, so no independent successful Gatekeeper assessment is claimed. Locust's
CLI bootstrap uses explicit Apple publisher verification and package trust.
